Something is missing in our relationships. In this fast paced, cyber, twitter, facebook, internet, texting culture…we have lost the art of connecting with real people. We still interact socially but it is often on a surface level. And, though there is a time and place for surface interaction, for the most part relationships were created by God for a specific purpose. We are called to care for each other, encourage each other, pray for each other, and be interested in other people’s lives. In a world that is all about SELF, and ME, this is not the norm anymore.
Today’s Truth: Romans 12:15-16
“Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.”
- Do you take joy, rejoice in another’s accomplishments, blessings and life? Or are you too jealous, competitive or uninterested to do this?
- Do you care when someone is hurting or suffered a loss? How do you care for others?
- Do you make harmony and complementing others part of your goal in relationships? Or are you waiting for the opportunity to one up another person?
Most people don’t recognize pride in themselves, but if you find that your relationships with others are always about you, then back up and begin asking them questions about their life. This might not be what you feel like doing, but if you begin to make it a habit and discipline to be interested in others, it will become part of your life and you will be amazed at how much more interesting life becomes. You see, we were created to be a part of other people, to care, to support, and to connect.
If you are only interested in connecting with people you find interesting, those in your age catagory or people group, then you are living in pride and conceit. You are living as if life is only about what YOU like and are comfortable with.
Let’s get Biblical!
Ask someone a lead in question today, and stick around long enough to listen to their answer and get connected with their life and story. Ask Jesus to give you his heart of care and compassion for others. And, finally take your SELF and place it, once again, on the altar and ask God to begin burning away any pride or conceit or prejudice that is there.
Texting, Twitter, facebooking…all fine. Just remember, that in and of themselves, they are not the only way to connect with people. People need people. God uses us, human flesh people, to connect with others and be, in a sense, Jesus with skin on. Today reach out and experience Jesus reaching another through you. This is, after you have put your SELF aside.
Lord I want to do relationships and people your way. I desire to be less about me and more about what you created me for.
